What Is An Infrared Electrical Inspection

During an infrared electrical inspection, Building Envelope Allies’s experts locate and document elevated temperatures in the electrical system. Typically, we inspect areas like the breaker panels, motor control centers, transformers, disconnects, switchgear, bus duct, and any other component that’s specific to your operation. After we’ve performed our inspection, we provide a detailed report in a spreadsheet format, so the components’ condition can be tracked on an annual basis. The problem areas we find are illustrated using infrared thermograms.

What areas of my building will be inspected during an infrared electrical inspection?

While every building presents its own set of unique challenges and electrical components, our highly-trained experts, will inspect all electrical system components specific to your building. These components and areas include:

  • Switchgears
  • MDP’s
  • MCC’s
  • Bus Ducts
  • Transformers
  • Disconnects
  • Starters
  • Breaker Panels
  • Motor’s / Peckerheads
  • Bearings
  • Other components where temperature is a concern

Why should I have Building Envelope Allies perform an infrared electrical inspection?

While building owners and property managers contact Building Envelope Allies for multiple reasons, the infrared electrical inspection is used to minimize a building’s downtime and increase productivity. Because increased heat in electrical components can lead to damage, it’s important to monitor the system’s heat. Building Envelope Allies’s experts locate and record elevated temperatures in the energized electrical distribution system of a facility before service interruption or equipment damage occurs. In addition to the inspection service, our experts can inspect and analyze motors, presses, lathes, and other types of machinery.

Through our infrared electrical inspections, you can increase profits, decrease production losses, and enhance safety. In fact, your insurance provider may offer a reduced premium when you have this inspection performed.
