Air & Water Leak Diagnostics FAQs

What is the difference between ASTM E1105 and AAMA 501.2?

ASTM E1105 consists of building a chamber on the test area to allow the system to be depressurized. Water is sprayed on the exterior from a calibrated spray rack for a defined period of time to test for water leakage. AAMA 501.2 is performed with a calibrated spray nozzle at a measured pressure for 1 minute per linear foot. No interior chamber is required.

What is the difference between a Curtain Wall and a Storefront?

The key difference between storefronts and curtain walls is the way water is managed in the system. In curtain walls, each lite of glass is weeped separately. In a storefront system, the entire elevation is weeped at the sill.

What is the most common air leakage locations in buildings?

The roof/wall connection is the most commonly found source of air leakage in commercial buildings.
