Water Leak Testing Curtain Walls
AAMA 501.2 testing is a quick way to assess the water-tightness of a curtain wall system. The system can be tested at a rate of approximately 1 linear foot per minute, which may seem slow, but it is actually much quicker than many other water leak tests that require chamber construction on the interior.
During testing, a Type B-25 nozzle is used, applying water while the nozzle is held precisely 12 inches from the area being tested. This specialized nozzle is designed to maintain water pressure of 30psi to 35psi.
Pressure can be a concern when testing high areas, as was the case with this University Indoor Practice Facility. Multiple pressure pumps are often used to maintain the proper pressure. Please contact Building Envelope Allies if you have a project that requires AAMA 501.2 testing.
